2. N-PR (Religious Holy Days)
Religious holy days are always excused absences. In order to consider them as a Non-Absence, a funded absence that
does not affect perfect attendance or the 90% rule, we require documentation.
If the holy day is recognized or easily researched, a parent note is acceptable and will suffice to excuse the absences as a
Non-absence. In addition, letters received from religious organizations stating the official days of observance to be
considered are also acceptable forms of documentation. If unsure whether or not a holy day is considered recognized,
please contact the Central Attendance Department for clarification.
A student is not required to gain permission prior to attending the religious event in order to have the absences excused
or considered a Non-Absence. Travel to or from the observance (one day each way) may also be considered a Non-
Absence if the observance is out of town. The maximum number of days that can be coded N-PR for religious
observances is three.
Any religious holy days not easily recognized or established by a letter from the religious organization but requested by
the parent should be excused with the code “E-PR”. Such notes are kept with the other parent notes.
3. N-CT (Required Court Appearance)
A student attending court proceedings shall be given a document from the court that applies to the entire school day
regardless of the time spent in court. If the court appearance is in an outlying area, required travel to or from the site is
included in the non-absence, but is limited to one day of travel to and an additional day of travel from the event. The
note from the court must have the student’s name as required to appear and be signed by the court clerk or the judge.
A student is not required to gain permission prior to attending court in order to code the absences as non-absences.
Court appearances that do not REQUIRE the student be present may be excused, using the code E-CT.
4. N-CV (College Visits)
Two days during the junior year and two days during the senior year of high school for approved college visits may be
marked as non-absences with supporting documentation. It does not include travel time to and from the college
institution; E-CV may be used at the administrator’s discretion to cover travel days or an additional college visit.
5. N-ML (Military Deployment Visit)
Students who are spending time with a parent or step-parent returning from deployment or heading to deployment may
have up to 5 days of absence coded as non-absences. In order to use the “N” code, a copy of the military orders should
be used for documentation. The law only provides for visiting with a parent or step-parent. The campus may choose to
excuse time when other family members are involved (i.e. siblings); the campus should excuse those absences with E-PB
and not use the N-ML codes.
