Self directed learning menggunakan
pendekatan andragogi. Self directed
learning merupakan pembelajaran yang
didesain oleh pembelajar sendiri dari rencana,
pelaksanaan, dan evaluasi. Dalam self directed
learning seluruh keputusan ditetapkan oleh
pembelajar mengenai apa, dimana, kapan,
berapa lama, dan dengan siapa
belajar. Self directed learning cocok untuk
pendidikan informal dan non formal (Putu Sudira,
2016).
Hiemstra, R. (1994) dalam Putu Sudira
bahwa ada beberapa yang perlu diketahui
mengenai self-directed learning, yaitu:
1) individual learners can become empowered to
take increasingly more responsibility for
various decisions associated with the learning
endeavor;
2) self-direction is best viewed as a continuum or
characteristic that exists to some degree in
every person and learning situation;
3) self-direction does not necessarily mean all
learning will take place in isolation from
others;
4) self-directed learners appear able to transfer
learning, in terms of both knowledge and
study skill, from one situation to another;
5) self-directed study can involve various
activities and resources, such as self-guided
reading, participation in study groups,
