Parable of Mustard Seed and Leaven
Jesus said, to what is the kingdom of God like? It is like a grain of mustard seed
which a man took and cast into his garden, and it grew and became a large tree,
and the birds of the air nested on its branches.
Again, he said, to what shall I liken the kingdom of God? It is like the leaven
which a woman took and buried in three measures of flour until it was all
leavened. He journeyed through the villages and cities teaching while going to
Jerusalem.
Narrow Gate Locked
On the road as they neared Jerusalem Peter and his followers asked him, are
there only a few who are to be saved? Jesus said to them; strive to enter in
through the narrow gate. Wide is the gate and broad is the road which leads to
destruction and many are those who travel on it. Oh, how narrow is the gate and
how difficult is the road which leads to life and few are those who are found on it.
I say to you that many will seek to enter in and will not be able. The very hour
when the Lord of the house rises up and locks the door you will be standing
outside and knocking at the door. You will begin to say our Lord open for us. The
Lord of the house will answer saying I do not know you or where you come from.
You will say we have eaten and drunk in your presence and you taught in our
streets. Depart from me you workers of iniquity. There will be weeping and
mashing of teeth when you see Peter, Andrew, James, John, all my apostle’s
prophets and believers in the kingdom of God.
House Built on Rock
Every man who comes to me and hears these words of mine and understands
them I will show you what he is like. He is like a man who built a house dug deep
and laid its foundation upon rock. When the rain came down and the rivers
overflowed, the flood came and beat upon the house. The winds blew, but could
not shake it, because its foundations were laid upon rock.
Leader of the Pharisees
It came to pass a leader of the Pharisees came and asked him along with some
of his followers to eat with him at his house. Many of the Pharisees were also
invited. Jesus entered the house and those who were with him to eat bread on
