4.7 Ladder safety.
It is not expected that employees will be required to work from ladders during company works.
Various measures are implemented to avoid the need to work on ladders e.g. long handled brushes,
extensions for vacuum cleaners.
On the rare occasions when ladders and steps have to be used the following measures will be
applied:-
• Ensure that suitable insurance arrangements are in place
• All works will be risk assessed prior to work commencement.
• All persons required to work at heights will receive appropriate training and information in
the safe means of access and safe working at heights.
• Suitable access equipment will be provided dependent on the work being carried out (e.g.
portable scaffolding, podium steps, step ladders, leaning ladders)
• Equipment to be used for work at heights will be subject to inspection at regular intervals and
in any case prior to use. (Where employees are allowed to use client owned equipment
ladders will be checked for the presence of a current in date inspection record).
• Any defective equipment will be removed from service and repaired or disposed of.
• Other persons at risk from working at heights will be protected from works by appropriate
measures including where relevant barriers.
