4.4 Electrical Equipment

It can be expected that employees will use portable electrical equipment during their works.

All portable electrical equipment provided (including office equipment) will be:-
                  • Suitable for use
                  • Inspected before use by the operatives
                  • Removed from use if found to be damaged and/or unsafe to use.
                  • Subjected to a regime of Portable Appliance Testing by a qualified inspector.
Storage will be provided for portable electrical equipment to minimize the risk of damage.

All employees are provided with information on the need to inspect equipment before use and given
examples of the kind of damage to look for (e.g. damaged plug, cable, casing, switches).

All repairs to equipment are carried out by trained and competent engineers. Employees are NOT
allowed to carry out repairs unless suitably authorized.

Any trailing cables for portable electrical equipment will be clearly marked, laid in a way to avoid
tripping hazards and overheating and inspected daily.
