3.15 Contractor and Subcontractor Management

The business occasionally subcontracts aspects of work to competent contractors e.g. window
                  cleaning activities
All contractors appointed are considered competent to carry out the work that they are appointed
for in a safe and healthy manner and competency is verified in the following ways:-

                  • Only contractors on the company Approved Contractor Register are used.
                  • Contractors must satisfactorily complete a company Contractor Application Form (which is
reviewed and approved by the company health and safety advisor) before being added to the
                  Register.
                  • Where required contractor employees will be required to demonstrate competency and
qualification evidence e.g. CSCS cards, IPAF training card
                  • Contractor companies will be expected to subscribe to a SSIP scheme e.g. CHAS, Safecontractor
                  • Contract work is reviewed from time to time to allow contractor competency to be assessed
and any issues to be dealt with.
                  • Throughout the contract any concerns about competency will be dealt with directly with the
                  contractor supervisor.

All contractors are required to submit and fully comply with written risk assessments and method
statements for the work to be completed. Equipment and tools used by contractors must be
supplied by contractors and should be subject to appropriate inspection processes.
In case of emergency Contractors are required to sign in and out of any work site that they are
working on so that the presence of all workers can be assured.

                  CDM 2015
It is not expected that any business activities will involve construction works and it is extremely
unlikely that the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 will apply.

Should the company and landlord arrange for any significant building alterations at HQ the landlord
will adopt the role of CLIENT and will meet all requirements therein (it is most likely that reference
will be made to the company health and safety representative for clear advice on responsibilities).

Should the company accept a contract for industrial cleaning contract they will adopt the role of
CONTRACTOR and will meet all requirements therein (it is most likely that reference will be made
to the company health and safety representative for clear advice on responsibilities).
