3.8 Improvement Programs – Objectives and Targets

The business strives to continually improve its’ safety standards and reduce the risk of injury and
damage arising from its’ activities.

To this end an improvement program is prepared which describes:-
• agreed improvement activities
• timescales to implement
• responsible persons.

The program is reviewed regularly by company management to agree and, where necessary,
amend priorities.
Items are identified for inclusion in the program from many sources including:-

• Findings of risk assessments • Reports of accidents/incidents
• Results of accident investigations • Incidents elsewhere in the industry
• Inspections sector
• Observations/feedback from staff

3.9 Consultation with the workforce.

The business recognises the benefits of consulting with the workforce on all matters of health and
safety for both the company and the workforce.

The business does not recognise trades unions and the applicable legislation is The Health and Safety
(Consultation with Employees) Regulations 1996.

The business has chosen to consult with the workforce directly and not to involve Representatives
of Workplace Safety.

Methods of consultation include:-
Matters regularly dealt with in consultation.

• Workplace hazards and findings of risk
assessments
• Circumstances of accidents and lessons
learnt
• Concerns from the workforce
• Details of method statements
• Tool box talks
• In house training programs
