Page 5 - CHASING A DREAM
P. 5
Nine years had passed, and she was in her third year of
college. The only reason why she managed to stay in school
was because of the fund her mother had left for her
education together with some donations from relatives she
had never met before, plus she was working a part-time
job. A whole year before she graduates, she was
bombarded with many school works and tasks with her
current year in college, resulting in anxiety and stress. As
she was scrolling through her laptop to search for an article
for an assignment, she came across a particular news
article that reads “New Disease: COVID-19 is now rapidly
spreading across China.” She got curious and clicked on the
report. She was horrified by the news that people have
been acquiring a strange and unfamiliar disease that has
the potential to disguise itself as regular flu. However, she
was just glad that it did not reach her country until the
next night where she came across a local news channel
while working at her part-time job. When she flicked onto
that news channel, a headline came on the television
screen that looked familiar with the article she had read.
The news stated a confirmed case of the disease in her
country but from a thirty-eight-year-old woman visiting the
Philippines. Local authorities say that they would be
looking into the situation and advised the general public to
follow safety measures. The following day, her manager
advised the team to wear masks and regularly use alcohol
before interacting with customers.
