8-601 The following minimum clearances apply when working around or
using boom type lifting or hoisting equipment around overhead high-
voltage lines. If voltage is unknown, minimum required clearance is
25’ – 0”:
Nominal Voltage Minimum
(Phase to Phase) Required
Clearance
(feet)
Up to 50 Kv 10’ - 0”
51kv - 115 kV 13’ - 0”
116kv - 230 kV 16’ - 0”
231kv - 500 kV 25’ - 0”
8-602 You must never operate an aerial lift unless you and the person to be
lifted have been trained in accordance with the manufacturer’s
recommended operating procedure.
8-603 Position equipment on a surface as level as possible to prevent
tipping.
8-604 Do not allow employees or others to sit or climb on the edge of the
basket or platform. Never allow employees or other to use planks,
ladders, or other unapproved devices to gain greater working height in
the basket or on the platform.
8-605 Secure any employee, who is in an aerial lift, to the anchor point of the
aerial lift using a full-body harness and appropriate lanyard. Lanyard
should not be a length that would allow a passenger to be catapulted
out of the basket.
8-606 Designate only one person to give signals to the dragline, shovel or
crane operator. An emergency stop signal, however, can be given by
anyone.
8-607 When tramming aerial lifts, position basket as low as possible.
