                                  Employees

               The purpose of the policy is to establish a manner of dress suitable for the performance of
               duties in a public facility.  All employees shall maintain a standard of dress, hygiene, and safety
               that helps to meet the department’s goals:
                   (1) To portray an acceptable image to our patients and visitors
                   (2) To encourage professional conduct and to enhance the self-respect of all employees
                   (3) To contribute to the safety of employees, patients, and visitors

               This policy in no way should usurp the UF Health – Shands Hospital’s dress code for those
               employees who come in contact with patients in the clinical arena.

               All attire should be clean, neat, properly coordinated and functional.  Choice of style and fabric
               are at the discretion of the employee, except for articles that might be considered
               inappropriate for an office setting, such as:
                   (1) Sun dresses with narrow straps
                   (2) Bare midriffs
                   (3) Plunging necklines
                   (4) Very sheer blouses
                   (5) Jeans
                   (6) Extremely tight-fitting pants or leggings
                   (7) Cut-offs or shorts
                   (8) Swim suits
                   (9) Bare chests

               Quiet walking shoes are preferred.  All shoes should be clean, neat and functional.  Flip-flops
               are not acceptable.

               Extremes of hair styles and facial hair, styles of dress, make-up and jewelry are not permitted.
               Sunglasses may be worn on duty only if medical verification of need is submitted.

               Particular attention should be paid to attire on those days for which the department entertains
               housestaff/fellow applicants, faculty applicants, and Visiting Professors.
