Where and how to search, screen and create a literature review
Purpose: The purpose of this presentation is to provide postgraduate students and early career
researchers with practical tips and guidance on how to search for, screen, and create a comprehensive
and well-structured literature review. By the end of the presentation, participants should have a clear
understanding of the key steps involved in searching for and selecting articles for a literature review, as
well as the process of creating a literature review that is closely aligned with research objectives.
Learning Outcomes: By the end of this presentation, participants should be able to:
1. Identify the key sources of information for a literature review, including academic journals,
books, reports, and online databases.
2. Demonstrate an understanding of how to use search engines, such as Google Scholar and
academic databases, to search for relevant articles.
3. Develop strategies for selecting and screening articles for inclusion in the literature review,
including using inclusion and exclusion criteria.
4. Demonstrate understanding of the process of data extraction and analysis, including organizing
and summarizing the findings.
5. Develop a comprehensive and well-structured literature review that is aligned with research
objectives, including a clear introduction, critical analysis of the literature, and a summary of
the findings.
6. Identify the tools and software that can be used to manage and organize references, such as
Mendeley, EndNote and Zotero.
