TEARS OF SUFFERING

At Trashigang, Samphel waited for Ugyen at the bus
terminal. When the bus arrived, Ugyen wasn’t on the bus.
So, he called Ama from a booth. “Ugyen is not on the
bus.”

“What? Are you sure?” she said.

“I searched everywhere. He is not there.”

“Why don’t you ask at the counter?”

Samphel asked at the counter but the man told him there
weren’t other buses coming. So he phoned Ama again.

Ama’s heart beat fast. She told Samphel to return to his
college, saying Ugyen might have arrived there.

But Ugyen disappeared. Nobody knew where he was.
Samphel tried all means to trace him.

Ama phoned Samphel every day and she was given the
same response: “He hasn’t come yet.”

“I repent raising that boy,” said Ama. “Wish Samphel
hadn’t brought him here.”

Doctor puffed out, leaning on the sofa. “It’s mysterious
the boy disappeared.”

At Sherubtse College, Tshoden saw Samphel watching a
football match. She waved at him, but he walked away.
