TEARS OF SUFFERING
Hope you must have met Tshoden. Please convey my
regards to her. Wish you the best of luck and anticipate
seeing you one day. Thank you, again, for saving my life.
I would always remain grateful to you.
Your brother,
Ugyen
Samphel’s eyes overflowed with tears. He sat on the edge
of the bed and considered how unabashedly he had hurt
his brother. He stared through the window, speculating
how foolishly Ugyen had made his decision because of
Tshoden. “How could he?” He flung onto the bed and
rolled up his blanket, and sobbed uncontrollably.
Seconds later, he sat up and read the letter again. “Why
would he do that? Why?” He grunted and gnashed his
teeth. “That’s because of Tshoden.”
He got up, but controlled his thoughts, remembering
Ugyen’s plea. He flung himself on the bed and napped.
In the evening, he met Tshoden near the gate. He stared
at her. “Why didn’t you tell me?”
“What?” Tshoden said, facing away.
“You know why Ugyen didn’t join this college, don’t
you?”
