MULTIPLE INTELLIGENCES OF NOVICE PUBLIC SCHOOL
ADMINISTRATORS: BASIS FOR MANAGEMENT ENHANCEMENT
ARIEL M. FERNANDEZ
This study determined the level of multiple intelligences of novice administrators in the
elementary schools of the 5th Congressional Districts of Pangasinan: SY 2013-2014. Specifically,
it sought to determine the following: 1) profile of the administrators in the elementary schools
in terms of age, sex, civil status, highest educational attainment, trainings attended, number of
teachers supervised, and hobbies; 2) novice school administrators’ level of multiple intelligences;
3) significant difference in the level of multiple intelligences across profile variables of novice
administrators in the elementary schools; 4) significant relationship between the level of multiple
intelligences and profile variables.
The following are the salient findings: 1) majority of the respondents belong to age
bracket 41 years old and above, female, married, mostly MA holders, with 11-20 teachers
supervised, attended relevant trainings, with 11-20 teachers supervised, attended relevant
trainings and have hobbies. Their level of multiple intelligences is high except in musical/
rhythmic which is 3.39 average and verbal/linguistic average. The overall weighted mean is
high. It was also found out that the novice administrators of elementary schools have the same
level of multiple intelligences when grouped according to their profile variables except in number
of teachers supervised.
In the light of the findings, the following conclusions were drawn which are deemed
essential: 1) the novice school administrators of elementary school are considered old, female
dominated, married, educationally qualified, supervised a few number of teachers, and have
relevant trainings attended; 2) the novice school administrators have high level in their
multiple intelligences along the areas of musical, visual, verbal, logical, bodily , interpersonal,
intrapersonal, naturalistic and existential;3) there are no significant differences on the level
of multiple intelligences of novice administrators in the elementary schools across the profile
variables except in number of teachers supervised; 4) there are no significant relationships
between the levels of multiple intelligences and the profile variables.
Based on the conclusions, the following are recommended. Novice school administrators
should take their own initiatives to finish their doctorate degree and undergo more training
on multiple intelligences. Multiple intelligence tests should be given to other teacher and
administrators as part of the regular evaluation program of the DepEd. More relevant and
selection of variables should be explored to predict higher level of multiple intelligences. Further
research may be conducted from another perspective and novice school administrators should
maintain high level of multiple intelligences at all times even though their variables vary.
