The following are the findings of the study: 1) The extent of ICT utilization of teachers
teaching science as perceived by the teacher respondents and their administrators along:
planning, preparation, implementation, assessment and evaluation, and common problems
encountered by the teachers in utilizing ICT in teaching. 2)The study found that this questionnaire
provided a valid and reliable instrument in identifying the status of ICT resource materials used
by teachers teaching science in terms of instructional materials and references. 3).Results show
that computers and books are the instructional materials and references which are very much
available among science teachers in E.O 189 schools of Urdaneta City Division; 4).the extent
of ICT utilization of teachers teaching science in E.O 189 schools is good as it had and overall
weighted mean (across all areas) of 4.20 which means “Utilized”; 5).the most common problem
encountered by teachers teaching science in E.O. 189 schools in utilizing ICT in teaching science
is the “Insufficient Computer Units (Ratio – 1PC:1Student) which had a mean rank of 3.82.
Based on the findings of the study, the following conclusions were drawn: 1) respondents
mostly belong to the 31-40 years old bracket, females and married. Most of them had Master’s
Degree Units and in T 1 and T III positions, net take home pay is relatively low ranging from
5,000-9,999 and have a 1-2 relevant trainings/seminars for the past three years; 2) Computers
and Books had the greatest number of frequency of availability and percentage; 3)The extent
of ICT utilization of teachers teaching science along planning, preparation, implementation, and
assessment and evaluation did not obtain the highest level; 4) common problem encountered by
respondents is the “Insufficient Computer Units (Ratio- 1 PC:1 Student).
Finally, the following recommendations are offered: 1) Encourage teachers to finish their
Master’s Degrees for them to be given greater number of chances to be promoted to a higher
and better working position; 2) Encourage teachers to attend local and international seminars
and trainings, relevant to the new trends in teaching science as one of the core subjects that
still needs to have its MPS be developed; 3) Administrators are encourage to establish linkage
and partnerships with Private, Civic & Civic Organizations and other GO’s and NGO’s that could
aid the teaching-learning process; 4) Encourage teachers to develop their computer skills by
reading technical books and online tutorials for them to be able to optimize the utilization of ICT
resources in teaching science; 5) Encourage teachers to undertake development of innovative
instructional materials through further studies like short-term courses on ICT.
