POST PARTUM DEPRESSION: A CASE STUDY

This study focused on the cases of postpartum depression among women. It dealt
on the respondents’ profile that include their age, civil status, highest educational attainment,
monthly family income, number of children, method of delivery and number of weeks/months
experiencing depression. It also focused on sources of postpartum depression along physical,
emotional, mental and social. Based on the problems identified, a proposed program was
formulated to lessen the incidence of postpartum depression.
Case study method was used in the study where an interview guide questions was
prepared for the respondents to answer. Related questions about their life experiences were also
investigated for the enrichment of the study.
Along age majority of the respondents are in the age bracket of 30-31 years old with
the frequency of 2 or 20%. In terms of their civil status majority of them are married with a
frequency of 5 or 62.5%. In terms of their highest educational attainment most of them are high
school graduate with a frequency of 4 or 50%. In terms of their family income most of them are
earning 5,000 and below/ month with a frequency of 3 or 37.5%.
In terms of number of children majority of them had one child with a frequency of
4 or 50%. In terms of the method of delivery majority of them had undergone the normal
spontaneous delivery with a frequency of 6 or 75%. In terms of their number of weeks or months
experiencing depression most of them experienced one year of depression with a frequency of
3 or 37.5%
Along physical, the respondents encountered loss of appetite and loss of weight.
Along emotional, most of them incurred self-pity and feeling of loneliness. Along mental, the
respondents incurred suicidal tendencies. Along social, the respondents failed to interact with
other people.
The proposed program can be utilized to improve their conditions and enhance their
quality of life.
