was utilized in the study using statistical tools like frequency counts and percentage, weighted
mean, t-test, and analysis of variance (ANOVA).
Based on the gathered data, the following are the findings: Majority of the respondents
are in the age bracket of 51 years old and above, males, married, college graduates, unemployed,
with a monthly family income of 5,001-10,000 and 20,001 and above, diagnosed with hypertension
in 2011 and earlier, with primary or essential hypertension and taking antihypertensive drugs. On
their extent of compliance of hypertensive patients to their treatment regimen, medication and
diet were rated as often or complied, while along activity it was rated as moderately complied.
However, on the summary of the extent of patients’ compliance, it was found out to be often or
complied. Problems are encountered by the respondents on their compliance to their treatment
regimen however, costly medications and many drugs are taken daily were rated high. The
profile variables are noted to be not significant in their compliance to their treatment regimen.
A proposed program was prepared to improve the compliance of hypertensive patients in their
treatment regimen.
The following conclusions are hereby offered: The respondents were heads of families
in their adulthood stage of their life, who have not been working, having diagnosed with the
disease for more than three (3) years and taking the prescribed drugs to control their high blood
pressure. They had been complying with their treatment regimen however there are aspects in
their activities that are not complied. Costly hypertensive drugs and taking it regularly made the
respondents consider it as their problems. Their profile variables did not affect their compliance
to their treatment regimen. The proposed program is hereby offered to improve their compliance
to their treatment regimen.
The following recommendations are presented: The respondents at their age should
know well about their disease and always allot a budget sufficient for their medications.
The respondents must religiously continue taking their medications as prescribed to control
their high blood pressure since they are high risks for heart attacks and other cardiovascular
diseases. Hypertensive patients may be referred to government hospitals or Rural Health Units
for a regular supply of medicines. They must comply with the prescribed medication, diet and
activities to avoid complications of the disease. The proposed program can be considered to
improve their compliance and patients’ classes can be conducted to educate them on their
disease conditions. Future studies can be replicated to other types of hypertension and those
with other complications in a wider scale.
