Public works. V,o work except essential repairs
has been carried out during the year, Ausrt from

the usual urkeer of buildings the following work
                 wes done.
The south wall of the cystous import shed was
rebuilt. A large portion of it ccllaosed and it
                 was necessary to re-build it.

The parapet of the wall along the sea side of
the western sea road was renalred. It had been
seriously dam-red by boats being anchored to it.

The police now have orders to prevent owners of beets
from tying up alongside the wall.
The married quarters at the fort were re-roc:ed.
A portion of the government office, whichv.es

previously a veranda, was enclosed and made into an
office. Owing to the great number of files and
records more room had to be obtained for the clerks
                 to work in.

R.A.F. Pier. The Land Department arrenged for
the building of a pier 1600 feet long opposite the
Royal -Air Force rest house. The work was done by
contract and a supervisor from the Land Department

was lent to the R.A.F. to supervise the building.
The contract was made before the living season but
commencement of work was delayed until after the diving
                 so the contractor made
                                           a considerable profit.
