General Questions
1. Why are you interested in the DOA opportunity with Vallejo Flood & Wastewater? Why are you

actively or passively looking for a new position?
I have worked for a long time in water and wastewater - I took the position over in Berkeley. I wasn't
really - I left to come to a City. I really miss special district work because it is so much smaller and so
much more specialized. I didn't realize that working in a City would be so many large areas. I thought I
would still be working on infrastructure topics which wasn't the case. My interest was working with a
Board and helping them with a policy and vision. Vallejo is so much more close to me - it is an industry
that I know really well. I wasn't really looking. I had resigned from my job in Berkeley because this
opportunity seemed so great. When Greg Norby left it seemed like a good time to leave. Because of his
departure I thought that this is the time to try something new.
Position Specific Questions
2. Please describe your highest level administrative support role to an Executive, Director, General
Manager and/or Board.
So the last two places I worked - with RVSD I was Greg Norby's right hand person, and I was Clerk of the
Board - he built that position for me. I was his assistant and worked closely with the Board. Part of that
Job Spec was they looked at Vallejo by the way. I worked very closely to the GM and was the assistant
for Jason Dow. So I've worked directly with a C-Level executive and with boards and commissions. I
wouldn't say I work for them - I work for the head of the agency and they work for the board. At Vallejo
it would be the District Manager, Melissa. And my job is to help them support the Board. I wouldn't be
interacting with the board directly and taking direction around the District Manager.
3. Please describe your supervisory experience and the most challenging human resources issue you
have addressed.
I've supervised a lot of consultant teams and outside contractors. There is the contract piece of it that
you have to take care of. So that is a big thing that I have done mostly in the sanitary and the water
environment. On my resume, you will see that I was a volunteer program for unpaid workers. That
could be challenging because there were things you wanted to improve. Because they were a volunteer
county you had to try to instill more capacity and training for them into the budget but not come down
with an iron fist because they were volunteers.
4. Please describe your experience in coordinating, tracking and reporting out on the implementation of
organizational goals, objectives, policies and procedures.
