for seven years I was a City Planner. The majority of my job was reviewing land use projects and if
necessary bring those projects to the commission for approval. I did have to regularly research and
the law that those projects needed to meet. For planning it would be the code and the height
restrictions. I was looking to these land use laws, and I think what's important in that work is no
necessarily knowing the answer off the bat, but knowing how to determine the resources that were
available to us for the project.
Communication, Collaboration, and Personnel Management
8. This position will interact with managers throughout the organization as well as partner
organizations and individuals in the community. How do you evaluate whether your department is
providing a good level of customer service? What do you feel are some of the challenges to
achieving a high level of customer service?
When you are working with executive level maangers - when you are doing a good job they will tell
you, if there is that trust between the parties and if there is a relationship between the parties. It
happens as I continue to do good work. I feel like for my current director, because we meet regularly
both informally and formally, we are able to dialogue how I can improve if there are areas that I need
improvement. Also the other department directors in my department I have been able to build those
relationships with those directors so I can freely dialogue with others.
