Village of Sturtevant Electronic Media-Device Use Policy
1. PURPOSE:
The purpose of this policy is to use technologies to save Village funds and staff time,
better communicate with the public and provide for a more efficient way of providing
government. The tablet is one tool to help the Village of Sturtevant accomplish these
goals.
2. BACKGROUND:
The standard set forth herein for use of tablet provided by the Village of Sturtevant is
based on the following premises:
2.1 Electronic resources have become an invaluable asset that must be protected.

2.2 Tablets are provided to Village Board members and others to establish a secure,
reliable, maintainable, and supportable method of communicating information to
Village Leaders.
2.3 Unless specifically exempt, information stored in any automated format is
considered to be a public record. The user of a tablet will be the custodian of the
stored information so that the Village can make the information available when
requested in accordance with the provisions of Wis. Stat. Chapter 19, Subchapter II.
2.4 Possession or use of devices or software that have not been properly licensed are
illegal, and the penalties are severe.
2.5 Incidental personal use in accordance with this policy is permissible.
2.6 All Village Board Members and Staff issued tablets will be required to read the
Villages’s Electronic Media-Device Policy and sign an acknowledgment
confirming their adherence to this policy.
3. INTERPRETATION:
3.1 This Policy does not cover individually-owned tablets being used for Village
work. Public officials are cautioned, however, that such use of private devices
will create public records that must be maintained in accordance with applicable
laws, and such devices may be investigated in some circumstances for purposes of
extracting the public records. Employee owned tablets used for Village business
will be provided access to the Village Wi-Fi service where available in Village owned buildings.
