Magpies coy about final
By Steven Milne
“The mind games have started in the big build-up to Saturday's blockbuster grand final between
Parkside and Port Colts at the Yarraville Oval.
The high-flying Magpies deserve to be favourites after a stellar year, but playing coach Phil O'Keeffe
doesn't see it that way.
"As far as I'm concerned we're going in as the underdog," O'Keeffe said.
"The last four times we've played, they've won three of them."
But Parkside will carry an important psychological advantage into the big game after beating the
Borough in the second semi-final.
Port Colts earned a grand final crack at the Magpies after methodically disposing of Spotswood in
the preliminary final at Yarraville on Saturday.
Coach Matthew Larkin said he was delighted with the win, especially his side's form in the first half
— when they lead the Woodsmen 7.7 (49) to 1.8 (14).
"I thought we played pretty well," the former North Melbourne captain and triple best and fairest
winner said.
But he said that would count for nothing at 2.15 pm on Saturday.
"We've got to have everyone at their best," he said.
