personnel have used to describe different elements of effective coaching. I began to
understand that to produce a video to communicate the model using a narrative
approach I would need to ‘build’ the model’s terminology around a description of
effective coaching by a real coach.

4.3.2 My Growth and Development
I have developed a focus on the creation of more beneficial relationships to support my
role, and particularly when charged with facilitating a learning environment. The
following extracts from journal entries before and after I had facilitated a workshop
with Coach Mentors reflects this focus and the requirement for vulnerability that Brown
(2011) emphasises the development of such a relationship requires.
‘The development of my own vulnerability is something I have been working on. I am
trying to embed a practice of learning and development based on a deep personal and
collective awareness.’

‘I got some great and valued feedback today from one of the attendees who told me
the participants had been discussing my style of facilitation afterwards and he
focussed on my personality as being key to the success of the workshop. It was
wonderful to get that feedback because I had done significant preparation and put a
