Page 65 - Producing a Video to Communicate a New Model of Coaching to GAA Coaches
P. 65
Preparations for the shoot involved extensive discussions with Ballywire Media founder
and CEO Paul Collins which challenged my ability to communicate my vision. The
following journal extract elaborates on some of the decisions around shot selection and
managing the ‘shoot’ that were made:
● We agreed that if Paudie Butler was comfortable we would look to have him
address the main camera directly. To avoid distracting his gaze from the camera
I would interview him/ask the questions from a position to the side and slightly
behind him.
● Having decided this we looked to ensure the second and third cameras were
positioned to one side with one focussed on picking up Paudie’s hand
movements and the other predominantly focused on close-ups of the face and
eyes. All cameras would be predominantly locked off in position once the
positions were agreed.
● Script - No Autocue as such will be used as I am concerned that a) it would be
too prepared and take from the informal and conversational tome I want the
video to reflect and b) I learned from recently shooting a person speaking
directly to camera that there can be issues with the person’s eyes noticeably
following the words and/or refocusing on the camera
● Notes with Keywords that I would like Paudie to mention were positioned where
Paudie could glance at them quickly between questions without overly breaking
the flow of the conversation.
