decided to use Sparkol Videoscribe to produce basic animated line drawings
representing the graphics (Appendix K) to introduce or, using Koumi’s terminology,
‘signpost’ each element of the model. Doing so would ‘segment’ the information into
chunks of related information as advocated by Mayer (2008), Ibrahim et al (2012) and
Guo et al (2014).
I further used Keynote to reinforce these graphics during Paudie’s dialogue by using the
‘picture in picture’ functionality to support an optimisation of cognitive load and the
retention and transfer of knowledge in the viewer as predicted by Mayer (2008) (Fig.
4.4)
