( b ) BOWLINE.
The bowline is used for rescue work as it is a non-slip
knot which will not tighten. You should learn to tie the knot
three ways: as a loop; around yourself and around another
person. The bowline can also be used to tie the halyard on a
flag pole to the wooden toggle at the top of a flag. The sketch
shows the knot.
( c ) HANK A ROPE.
Hanking a rope is a tidy way of coiling a rope without it
becoming tangled. It helps to protect the rope during storage
and makes it easy to uncoil when needed.
4. NATIONAL CULTURE
How much do you know about The Bahamas?
( a ) DRAW AND COLOUR THE NATIONAL FLAG, KNOW ITS SYMBOLS AND
WHEN IT WAS FIRST USED.
The Bahamas Flag is one of the national symbols of the Commonwealth of
The Bahamas. The Bahamas flag comprized of three equivalent horizontal stripes.
The black equilateral triangle on the left represents the unity and
determination of the people of The Bahamas.
The triangle is oriented toward three equal-width stripes symbolizing areas of
natural resources.
The two aquamarine stripes at the top and bottom of the flag representing
the sea and one gold stripe representing the land.
The flag was adopted on July 10, 1973.
