( e ) KNOW HOW TO LIGHT A BURNER ON A GAS STOVE IN A SAFE MANNER.
Gas and matches together are very dangerous so you must be very careful
when lighting a gas stove burner.
Light the match and take it to the burner and THEN turn on the gas. If you
turn on the gas first there will be a buildup of gas around the burner at the time you
lite the match and it could ignite all at once. Perhaps even causing an explosion
which could burn you and your clothes.

( f ) KNOW THE SAFE WAY TO LIGHT A KEROSENE STOVE,
        LAMP AND A COAL POT.
In lighting any of these items out of doors you should always
guard against the wind. The best method is to turn your back to the
        wind, thus, shielding any flame.
Most kerosene stoves and lamps have to be pressurized with
a pump fitted to them. This pressure forces the kerosene up to the
burner or the light unit. Akela or an adult will show you the safe way
to light these as they can be difficult and dangerous.
The ordinary Hurricane lamp, which also uses kerosene, has a
wick which draws the kerosene from the base and feeds the flame at
the other end. To light a hurricane lamp shield the match, move the
little lever to lift the glass globe upwards to allow you to touch the
lighted match to the top end of the wick. Release the lever to lower
the globe and then adjust the height of the flame with the little control
        wheel.
If you use starter fluid or any other fluid to help to start coal
pot, be careful when you apply the match that there is not a big flash
which can burn you and your clothes.

( g ) KNOW WHAT TO DO IF AN ELECTRICAL SHORT CIRCUIT
CAUSES A FIRE IN YOUR HOME.

The first thing to do is to inform an adult and if you know where the main
switch box is for the house turn it off or get an adult to do so. Get yourself and
anyone else out of the house and leave the fire to adults and the Fire Rescue
        Service.

Perhaps being qualified in First Aid would be of help in the
previous situation. Why not try for the First Aid Badge in the
proficiency group. You could also try for the Rescuer Badge.
