PROCEDURE
FTake 24cm diameter of qualigens filter paper
no.615A or whatman filter paper no.1 and fold like
thimble. Weigh 20gm of MBM or fishmeal sample
into this thimble and close well by stapler pin.
Please ensure that sample should not come out
from the thimble. (Picturte-6)
FExtract the oil content for that sample using Soxhelt
apparatus by Petroleum ether for 4 hours in dry Picture - 8 Picture - 9
flatted bottom 250ml boiling flask. (Picture-7)
FAfter extraction is completed, then 250ml-boiling
flask is put into hot air oven for 2 hours. (Picture-8)
FCool the above flask in desiccators for half an hour
and mix thoroughly by adding 25 ml of absolute
alcohol or ethyl alcohol previously neutralize with
0.1N sodium hydroxide using phenolphthalein
indicator. (Picture-9)
FBoil the mixture and titrate the hot mixture with 0.1 Picture - 10
N sodium hydroxide shaking vigorously to
appearance of the first permanent pink colour of the
same intensity as that of the neutralized alcohol that
persist for 30 seconds. Record the volume and
calculate the Free Fatty Acid. (Picture-10)
CALCULATION
Volume of 0.1Nsodium hydroxide X Normality of 0.1Nsodium hydroxide X 28.24
Percentage of free fatty acid is = --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sample weight, g
