After the initial data collection, we will provide a professional development for the teachers of Virgen del
Carmen on October 2nd so that they will be able to implement PBIS sustainably. In this professional
development, we plan on explaining the process of PBIS and what it entails. We will go over the three
overarching expectations for the whole school and specific rules under each expectation for each setting in the
school. We will also explain the two reward systems that have been aforementioned. In addition to this, we
will model how teachers should phrase error corrections and verbal positive reinforcement. The largest theme
in PBIS is staying positive and proactive. So, instead of saying “Do not run,” we plan on encouraging teachers
to say, “In order to be safe, we need to walk in the classroom.” During this professional development, we also
plan on having a translator just to make sure that all participants fully understand what is being said. Likewise,
we will have time for comments, questions, and concerns at the end of our professional development
presentation. We hope that this professional development will ease the staff at Virgen del Carmen into this
large program of PBIS.
