materials to ensure that they are free of grammatical and spelling errors and that the message we want to
express is clearly conveyed.
Another potential issue is that there may just be a general lack of understanding of the system. Even if we
were able to explain it perfectly in Spanish, the teachers may still be confused because they have no prior
knowledge or experience with PBIS. We plan to address this by continually providing support, feedback, and
professional development sessions as we see necessary to help the teachers understand and implement the
system to the best of their abilities and make adjustments if something isn’t working. We also hope that once
the system has been implemented and the teachers have the opportunity to consistently practice it, they will
become more accustomed to it over time and build some understanding in this way.
A challenging aspect of this project will be the fact that we are implementing it school-wide rather than with a
single class. This does seem somewhat ambitious, but PBIS has been proven to be more effective when
implemented in this way. Because we have one of us in each classroom, this is a great opportunity to
implement it school-wide because each teacher will have the support of an education student from the US that
has prior knowledge and experience with PBIS. One concern with school-wide implementation, however, will
be enforcing the system in more communal spaces that do not have a designated teacher, for example, the
cafeteria and the playground. It can get very overwhelming to manage behavior when there are students from
every class present, and this will be especially difficult if PBIS has not been effectively implemented in the
classroom, where the students spend most of their day. The students need to spend time with the system and
get used to it in their classroom so that they can understand it better and follow it at all times and in all areas
of the school. For this reason, we are mainly focusing on the implementation of PBIS in the classrooms, and
we are hoping that this will create a good foundation for enforcing norms in the non-classroom areas of the
school.
When working with a behavior system that heavily relies on the use of positive reinforcement and providing
rewards to the students, cost can become a big concern, especially in a school that has minimal funding and
resources to begin with. Because of this, we plan to provide teachers with the basic resources to make PBIS
