Smart Mobility for Now and Then”

4.2.2. Small and medium urban areas
Small and medium urban areas (often the cities with
strong development in tourism): For this type of
urban, we should not be rigid in planning public
bicycle ecosystem like big cities, but must actively
adjust combining with urban infrastructure and
characteristic conditions in that area to create a
system that is both efficient, economical and carries
its own identity.
The solution groups are given from subjective views
from the authors group through research process
and working experience in transport projects in
Vietnam.
5. Conclusion
The explosion of motorbikes in Vietnam has
caused serious consequences for Vietnam's urban
traffic such as congestion, traffic accidents and
living environment problems. In order to reduce the
development of motorbike traffic, public bicycle is
an effective solution for short-distance trips and
efficient connection of traffic hubs and public
transport system.
In order to develop the PBS in a motorcycle
environment like in Vietnam, this system must have
its own characteristics which are suitable for the
travel characteristics of urban people. In essence, it
is only a small part of the system of public transport
in big cities in Vietnam. The development of PBS in
urban areas is necessary, but there must be a
roadmap, long-term synchronization to achieve good
results. If this plan goes well, PBS will be a key
factor for the urgent issues of the public transport
system.
