Set the first link of chain directly on top of Strand Pair A and lace these two
strands up through the link. Lace Strand Pair B down through the link, making
sure it crosses Strand Pair A.
Repeat this procedure with Strand Pairs C and D through the second link, then
return to Strand Pairs A and B for the third link, and so on. In this fashion,
leapfrog down the chain. Two strand pairs cross through each link, and each pair
skips a link before entering another from the side on which it exited in the
previous pass.
Continue this two-part process until ten links have been filled, then finish the
splice on the eleventh and twelfth links. To finish, remove the tape from the
strand pair ends. Separate the two strands of each pair, pass one through a link
(either the eleventh or the twelfth, as appropriate) and the other around the side
