photographs. He travels to interesting places and carries on a long
term project regardless of the location. He still prefers a high-den-
sity place for his work, such as a rural area, an island village, a prison
etc. He visited The Balkan Empire, the Black Sea, the Baltic Sea, the
former Yugoslavia, the former Soviet Union, the Caribbean Islands,
Central America, the Antarctic (the first project was carried out in
the Kergren Islands), China and Japan in their described sequenc-
es and sourced his own interpretation from the reality he faced
into his work. His photographs have been featured in many of
the world’s most renowned institutions, including the Metropolitan
Museum of Photography in Tokyo, the Maison de Européenne de
La Portography in Paris, the Hungarian Cultural Center in Arles,
the National Gallery of Singapore, the Museum of Photography in
Helsinki Canton Fine Arts Museum, Musee de Beaubourg, National 라트비아 | Latvia 'East to East' series 2002
Gallery of Jakarta, and Museum of Fine Arts, Texas. In 2013, a retro-
spective of the Sluban (After Dark: 1995-2015) was held at France’s
                  Musee d’Epes.
                  Klavdij Sluban’s series <East to East> is a series created from 2002
to 2009. The title of the work is ‘East’ engraved in my veins and the
geographical ‘Far East’ area he traveled. He was born in Paris but
has a Slovenia lineage, located in East of France and did not get
back to Paris until he was 7 years old after living in small village in
Slovenia. Since then he has been living in Paris.
He said he wanted to get an internal balance between the familiar
world through the Siberian crossing, the Baltic Sea, the Moscow,
the Siberian Mongolia, and Beijing to the world, where he only feels
connected through photographs. As he pictured the encounter
between the two worlds and their perception, the image became
somewhat private and sensitively responsive to the reality. <East
to East> is consist of 55 black-and-white images taken with a film
camera while he was traveling and writing.
His work <East to East> won the European Publishers Photogra-
phy Award. The photographs were published simultaneously in five
European countries and in the United States, and were exhibited at
the ‘Photo Exhibition of Arles (France), Format International Pho-
tography Festival (UK) and Grand Palais of Paris Port (France). In
the Donggang Photo Festival, you will be able to meet the world
that he felt through the work of Klavdij Sluban who was named the
                  photographer of the year.
