INSTALLATION & STARTUP
Chapter 3 Getting Started
Understanding Working Envelopes
Butterfly Clearance (Exit)
This is the distance from the manifold to the centerline of the staggered Photo-Eyes. On
standard installations this is 37-1/2”, which is 6” shorter than the entrance butterfly clearance.
The Entrance Butterfly Clearance is 43-1/2”.
We favor the exit Photo-Eyes, toward the exit, to allow the Dryer and Triple Foam to reach
farther back on all vehicles. Butterfly Clearance (entrance and exit) allows for carriage pull back
during corner rounding, and also provides adequate clearance when a vehicle pulls in off-
center. Standard installation drawings in the manual show the exit Photo-Eye centerline to be
set at 11” from the entrance side of the exit head beam. This gives you the 37-1/2” described
above.
