Bearing Replacement
Drive Bearing
The best method to capture a bearing is by properly tightening it in position. When tightening a
bearing assembly an adequate amount of torque needs to be applied to ensure that the bearing is
securely captured. The following procedure has been written to reflect best practice methods to
properly capture and torque bearing assemblies.
1) Assuming the bearing has already been secured into place; rotate the outer part of the bearing until the
slot is aligned with one of the bolts. Once aligned, remove the 1” long bolt that is aligned with the slot of
the outer bearing.

2) Replace the 1” long bolt with a longer 1/2-13 bolt.
Note: This substitution will prevent the outer part of the bearing from spinning during the
tightening process.
3) Apply Red Loctite® #271™ to the center fastener and secure the fastener into the shaft (through the
spacer) as shown below.
Note: The center fastener MUST be torqued to 120 ft/lb.

4) Remove the longer 1/2-13 bolt and replace the originally removed 1” bolt.
