MAINTENANCE
Chapter 3 General Repairs
Top Wheel Troubleshooting
There are two main problems that can occur with a FreeStyler® top wheel.
1) The top wheel does not lower properly.
2) There is a “top wheel not up” error or fault.
The following is a list of troubleshooting checks arranged by likeliness to eliminate the problem and
ease of inspection.
The top wheel does not lower properly
1) Verify that the FreeStyler® system air is between 105 and 115 psi. Also verify that the air
compressor comes on above 100 psi.
2) Turn on the top wheel and verify that the wheel turns counterclockwise when viewed from the
driver side of the machine. When the top wheel sins, it creates a counter torque. If the top wheel
spins in the wrong direction, the counter weight and penetration of the wheel are effected. Adjust
as necessary.
3) Clean the gears per the monthly maintenance in Chapter 2 of this manual. Use a rag and a
screwdriver to clean each tooth on both sides of the machine. If there is any flaky powder coat on
the teeth, scrape it out. Apply a marine bearing grease to the gear faces.
Note: DO NOT USE Teflon, Silicon or Lithium based grease.
4) One of the four counterweight blocks should have been installed in the holes farthest from the
gears on each side of the machine as part of the initial set up. Verify that the initial top wheel
counterweight gear set up has been performed, as shown below. See the Installation and Startup
Manual.

As the cleaning material wears, it may be necessary to remove more weights.
