MAINTENANCE
Chapter 3 General Repairs
Inside the Pods
Replacement of a Cylinder
Entrance Cylinder
3) Remove the Arm Shoulder Bolt that attaches the entrance cylinder to the arm attachment. See the
images above in Step 2.
Then take the proper size Allen wrench and remove the Cylinder Shoulder Bolt that holds the
cylinder in place.
4) Raise the cylinder assembly above the air over oil bottle assembly. See the images above in Step
2.
Remove the hydraulic lines run to the cylinder.
Note: Raising the cylinder above the level of the oil in the bowls will minimize the loss of oil from
removing the lines.
Tie the lines above the level of oil inside the oil bowls, Otherwise, the oil will leak all over the
inside of the pod.
Note: If you either extend or retract the cylinder rod all the way, then when you reassemble cylinder
onto the machine and hook up the lines, you will only have to add oil to one side of the
machine.
5) Remove the cylinder assembly from the machine.
Remove the fittings from the old cylinder and assemble them onto the new cylinder.
Orient the Reid switch(es) in approximately the same position on the new cylinder as they
were on the old cylinder. See the images above in Step 2.
6) Now, the new cylinder is completely assembled. Install, it onto the machine and attach the Arm
Shoulder Bolt back through the bumper clevis.
Attach the cylinder clevis back to the cylinder attachment arm using the Cylinder Shoulder Bolt
and the accompanying hardware.
7) Reattach all of the airlines and oil lines onto the cylinder. See the images above in Step 2.
Note: Follow the same routing pattern used for the old cylinder.
Reattach the Reid switch(es) to their respective wires.
8) Push a piece of poly flow line onto a funnel.
Hold the line above the top of the funnel, and pour some #3 spindle oil 41 SSU into it.
Note: The spindle oil that Belanger® recommends is made by Corrigan Oil.
9) Remove the brass plug located on the top of the oil bottle. See the images above in Step 2.
Take the funnel and add about an inch of oil to the oil bottle and have somebody push the
wheel in slowly until the oil is just about sucked all the way out of the oil bottle.
When it is close have the person stop pushing and add another inch of oil.
Repeat this process until the oil is never completely sucked out of the oil bottle.
Cycle the arm until all of the air is sucked out of the cylinder.
Add more oil as necessary.
10) Replace the brass plug and verify that all lines are securely pressed into the pneumatic fittings.
11) Turn on the main air and water supply to the machine.
