Life is a tale of lengthy dreams
Like a vale’s winding streams;
Now musing among shady shrubs,
Now muttering o’er a million pebbles.
Pebbles of worries plenty in the path,
Shady bowers of peace stray apar;
Life’s track is a hardy trek,
Lost is one who laments o’er the wreck!
Here joins a stream, there a tributary,
But bold babbles the brook together or solitary;
Life’s lure ofpelf and power in ivory tower
Trembles at every sway of Evil’s power.
For, down cascades the cataract from hills aloft
To meander in calm innocence on plains soft,
A lowly life and a lofty ideal
Are destined to succeed despite the ordeal.
Men may come and men may go
But the busy brook doth ever flow;
Off may fall the leaves or add to life’s Book ever replete;
But still the tale of life is never complete.
