Game industry export value, however, was growing mainly from both original

content and outsourced service. The total export value increased from 419.7 million

baht in 2015 to 434.4 million baht in 2016 because Thai game producers could find

their opportunities to export more in Asia, Europa and America.

               Conclusion and Strategic Recommendation

In conclusion, Thai digital contents industry is still dominated by oversea

market including imported contents and outsourced service. This means most Thai

companies in this industry are not very good at creating their original content (own

IP). Although game industry seems to have some certain growth in original content

market, the portion is still small compared to game distribution market.

However, having own IP is the way to survive long-term in local and global

market. By having their original content, the companies do not have to compete in

price sensitive market like outsource service market. Moreover, by having our own

original contents, we can reduce imported content from overseas. But creating own

IP is not easy for Thai companies, especially for SMEs. The obstacles come from

lack of funds as the software is very expensive and the return on investment period

is quite long. Also, skilled workers are lacking and some existing government policies

               do not support international competition.

IDC therefore recommend Thai government to set up a solid long term plan

(10-20 years) to support the industry, and every government organizations need to

work coherently. Also, all policies need to be aligned, and the related laws need

               to be clear and practical.

To illustrate, the government should start from improving the quality of the

college students whose major are related to digital content creation. Cooperative

Education or co-op programs should be implemented in the university to allow

students to get enough practical work experience. Also, government should

consider setting up many policies to help Thai digital contents business owners. For

example, tax incentive policy, content quota system, copyright infringement policy,
