3. Do you feel shy asking help from other people regarding a certain direc-
                     tion?

                     Sample answer:
Usually, I am a shy person, but when it comes to asking directions, I tend to forget about my
shyness because I think safety counts most. I don’t want to get lost.

                  1. You’re invited to the debut party of your best friend. You are one of the
guests of honor, so you went to the beauty salon and made yourself look
really fabulous and beautiful. While having your foot spa, you showed the
                     therapist the invitation card.

                     Sample answer:
I’m so excited for my best friend’s debut party tonight. I’ll be dancing with the apple of my
eye at the Cotillion de Honor, so you better make me look gorgeous. By the way, do you know
this place, “The Fernwood Gardens”? Yeah, they told me it’s just near from here; is it true? I’ve
checked the address and tried to drive around the area, but I still haven’t found it. Oh I see, so
it’s just a 15 minute drive from here. Are there any landmarks that I could see near that estab-
lishment? Ok, I hope I got that right! Let me check, so I’ll drive straight ahead from here then
turn right to the 2nd avenue, count another 2 blocks, and when I see a children’s park at the
corner, I need to turn left , then there’s the Fernwood Gardens along its opposite side. Did I get
it right? Oh, thank you so much, you’ve been a great help! Now I’m truly ready for the event.

                  2. You’re a new nurse in San Francisco, California, and you’re about to meet
your sister whom you haven’t seen for 10 years since she’d migrated in Aus-
tralia. She then decided to book a reservation for two at “The Cathedral Hill”.
However, since you still are not familiar with the hotels/places there, you’ve
researched for the directions on the Internet.

                     Sample answer:
Oh well, I must get this thing right! I should be able to follow this map that I’ve researched
from the internet, so I would be able to reach “The Cathedral Hill” in no time. Ok, it says here
that from San Francisco International Airport the approximate distance of the hotel is 15 miles.
I need to take US 101 North towards San Francisco, and I just have to follow the signs for Civic
Center. Then, I’ll take an exit at Mission Street and turn right. Next, I have to turn left unto Van
Ness Avenue and also turn left on Geary Street. Oh my, thank goodness I’m already here! It’s
true that the hotel is located on the right. Oh, I’m so happy I can follow directions very well! I
have to tell my sister that I can drive her to Symphony Hall since it’s only 8 blocks away from
here or we can take the one-half mile drive to The Bill Graham Civic Auditorium or just go there
by tomorrow. I truly want to enjoy our vacation together, sis!
