ST-8 Steering system- Steering Mechanism

Check on car
1. Checking the free clearance of steering wheel

a. Keep the vehicle in fully stop status.
b. Make the steering wheel return to center the, ensuring
the front wheels point directly ahead.
c. Rotate the steering wheel slowly from side to side.
Check the free clearance of steering wheel.

If the free travel exceeds the limits, then check the
steering wheel, steering column and related parts.

Free clearance of steering wheel: ±5°
2. Checking the steering column
a. Sway the steering wheel side to side and back and
forth, check if the bearing clearance of the steering
column is constant. If the steer wheel can be swayed
excessively, then check intermediate steering shaft and
bearings.

3. Check the steering angle

a. Lift the vehicle and install the angle measuring instrument under the front wheel
Caution
Add a wood block under the rear wheel with the same thickness as that of angle measuring instrument.

b. Make the turntable scale to zero by rotating the steering wheel. Rotate the steering wheel to the limit
positions respectively clockwise and anti-clockwise
c.Read the maximum angle of front inner and outter wheels
Turning angles of front wheels, max. Inner wheel: 42°

Outer wheel: 33°
Caution

When rotating the steering wheel to turn the front wheel, step down the braking pedal to prevent the vehicle moving.

d. If the maximum turning angle cannot be met, loosen upper
locking nut on adjusting bolt and of the steering knuckle.
e. Adjust the extension of the bolt, until reaching the
requirement of maximum turning angle. Then tighten the
locking nut on the adjusting bolt.
Caution

The adjustment method in left side is as same as that
of the right side.
