This casual attitude towards the speech he uttered is only the
result of the force of his habits, that this esur doesn’t seem to him .וֹבּ ןיֵאֶשׁ תוֹדִּמְבוּ תוֹלֲעַמְבּ רקֶֶשְׁבּ רֵאָפְּתִיְו .וּנֶּמִּמ ץֵצוֹלְתִיְו
to be so serious. This is not honoring Hashem. This is virtually תוֹערָָה םֶהיֵתוֹלֻּעְפִל םיִכְּסַיְו םיִעָשׁרְָל ףיִנֲחַי וֹתָוֲאַגּ רוּבֲעַו
described by (Tehilim 78:36-7) “They tried to fool Him with
their mouths and deceive Him with their lips…and they were .םֶהיֵניֵעְבּ דָבֻּכְמ הֶיְהִיְו ,וּהוּאְשַּׂנְיֶּשׁ ידְֵכּ ,תוֹנֻּגְמַהְו
not resolute in His covenant.” We ourselves recite in our daily
prayers (Tehilim 29:1) “Give honor and might to Hashem,” yet .תוֹמוֹקְמ הָמַּכְבּ הָתוּנְגּ לדֶֹגְבּ דֹאְמ גיִלְפִה בוּתָכַּהְו
we don’t give Him either honor or strength.
There is no other practical advice to remedy this situation other יֵניֵעְבּ בָעֹתְמ אוּה ןֵכּ םַגּ ,דַבְלִבּ בֵלַּבּ הָוֲאַגּ ליִבְשִׁבּ וּלִּפֲאַו
than to learn these laws specifically using books of halacha as הַּבְגּ לָכּ 'ה תַבֲעוֹתּ" :)'ה ז"ט יֵלְשִׁמ( בוּתָכֶּשׁ וֹמְכּ ,ךְרַָבְּתִי 'ה
one would learn any other laws, such as the laws of robbery or
theft, the laws of charging excessively and similarly the laws of ,)רַמוֹל ךְרֶֹצ ןיֵא( יֵעָבִּמ אָל :שׁוּרֵפּ ,"לָכּ" רַמָאֶשּׁ הַמ ."בֵל
non-kosher food etc., since these are laws which reflect upon
man’s relationship with man, and which are also inclusive of ,בָעֹתְמ אוּה יאַדַּוְבּ ,םיִבוֹט םיִשֲׂעַמוּ הרָוֹתּ וֹבּ ןיֵא םִא
man’s relationship with Gd. As long as man studies only general אוּה ןֵכּ םַגּ ,םיִבוֹט םיִשֲׂעַמוּ הרָוֹתּ טַעְמ וֹבּ שֵׁי םִא וּלִּפֲאַו
mussar, he thinks to himself that these laws are only ethical in
nature (and not obligatory halacha). But in truth HaKadosh ,יִתִּמֲא ןוֹבְּשֶׁח וֹשְׁפַנ םִע ןֵנוֹבְּתִיֶּשְׁכִדּ .וֹתָוֲאַגּ רוּבֲע בָעֹתְמ
Baruch Hu commanded us and warned us to be more careful in
observing these laws than about other topics of the Torah, as I ביִטיֵמֶּשׁ ,תוֹבוֹטַּה יִפְל ףֶלֶאֵמ דָחֶא וּלִּפֲא םֵלִּשׁ אלֶֹּשׁ אָצְמִי
will shortly explain at length. :םירְִמוֹא וּנָאֶשׁ וֹמְכּ .ויָיַּח יֵמְי לָכּ וֹמִּע אוּה ךְוּרָבּ שׁוֹדָקַּה
We have found among the teachings of Chazal (Gemara ךְָל תוֹדוֹהְל םיקִיִפְּסַמ וּנָא ןיֵא ,'וּכְו הרָיִשׁ אֵלָמ וּניִפ וּלִּא
Sanhedrin 106b) that HaKadosh Baruch Hu said to Doeg
Edomite (ostensibly Hashem’s message to Doeg was conveyed יֵמְי לָכּ אָטָחֶשׁ ויָאָטֲח לדֶֹגְבּ ןֵנוֹבְּתִי רֶשֲׁאַכּ טרְָפִבוּ .'וּכְו
to him by His prophets): “When you come across the parshyot
of the Torah that address the subject of Lashon Hara, how will אלֹ ,וֹמִּע דֶסֶח הֶשׂוֹעְו ויָלָע הֶפַּחְמ אוּה ךְוּרָבּ שׁוֹדָקַּהְו ,ויָיַּח
you explain them?” The simple meaning is, there (in studying תֶלֶהקֹ( קוּסָפַּה לַע ).ט"פ ןיִלֻּח( ל"ַזֲח וּרְמָאֶשׁ וֹמְכוּ ,ויָשֲׂעַמ יִפְל
those parshyot) one will realize the enormity of the punishment
that will befall anyone who speaks Lashon Hara, both in this לֶשׁ ויָתוֹרוֹתְו ויָתוְֹצִמ לָכּ ."וּהיִפְל םָדָאָה לַמֲע לָכּ" :)'ז 'ו
world and in Olam Haba. This person is reviled even by the
angels who seek him out to incite the retribution of law against הֶמַּבּ וֹל ןיֵא יאַדַּוְבּ ,ויִפִּמ אֵצוֹיַּה לֶבֶהְל קיִפְּסַמ וֹניֵא םָדָא
him. But more than anything else, this person is very hated by הֶשֲׂעַת אלֹ אוּהֶשׁ ,הֶזַּה ןוָֹעֶה רֶמֹחְבּ ןֵנוֹבְּתִי םַגּ .תוֹאָגְּתִהְל
HaKadosh Baruch Hu to the point where he is called abhorrent
to Him. Shelomo HaMelech writes in Mishle (6:16-17) “Six ךֶָבָבְל םרְָו" :)ד"י 'ח םירִָבְדּ( בוּתָכֶּשׁ וֹמְכּ ,ג"ַירְַתּ ןַיְנִמִּמ
