Truthfully, how can man be conceited? A putrid drop of semen
formed his being and his future will be to decompose in a place
filled with earth and worms and crawling things that will eat his
body from top to bottom. The Mishnah Avot (4:4) states that one
must be very, very humble since the future of man is the worm הָחיִתְּפ
(that will eat him), meaning, that based on what Chazal have
               taught us (Gemara Shabbat 152b) man’s soul will not be gathered
under Gd’s Throne of Glory until 12 months have passed since
               his body was buried and decomposed. Only then will his soul
               ascend On High to its resting place and there it will be bound 'ר רַמָא :)'ו ןָמיִס שַּׁגִּיַו תַשׁרָ ָּפ( אָמוּחְנַת ְּב אָתיִאדְִכְו .
to the Bond of Life. For these reasons Chazal asked – How can
               man become haughty? In the end, this man’s Nefesh will long
for the time his body will rot and decompose and turn wormy so
               that this soul can be elevated to Heaven and its eternal resting םִא .
               place.

               Chazal have said in Gemara Sotah (4b) “Whoever has a prideful .
attitude is as though he worships idol gods…and denounces
               Gd…and the Shehchina wails over him.” Man should also think
carefully and deeply about the severity of the punishment that
               awaits him both in this world and in Olam Haba, as Chazal have
               taught in Gemara Sukah (29b) “There are four reasons why שֵׁי ,רָב ָּד ל ָּכ ןֵכְו .
people who own assets will lose their wealth completely…and
               because of a haughty attitude.” The text there goes on to say – אוּה ,הָוְצִמ רַב ּדְ םוּשְׁל ז ָּבַה ןֵכָלְו .
               “Rebbe Chami said regarding anyone who has a haughty attitude, וֹתוֹאֵמ יִנוּיִּחַה ַח ֹּכִמ רֵסָח הֶשֲׂעַנ אוּה י ִּכ ,וֹמְצַע תֶא ל ֵּבַחְמ
that HaKadosh Baruch Hu says this person and I cannot coexist
               in the same world (because this person cannot tolerate Hashem).
They also have said there that his body which has turned into .
earth will not get up when the dead are restored back to life.
Therefore man must be careful to avoid this exceptionally evil
               character trait. The Rambam expressed this concept in Hilchot

               De’Aut (2 perek, 3 halacha) as follows: “There are mindsets םיִמָעְפִל םִא וּלִּפֲאַו .

\ personality traits that are (absolutely) forbidden for man to

               stay away from them at an extreme distance, and that mindset
is the personality trait of conceit. The good (i.e., proper) way
               of behaving in life is not merely to be humble but rather one
