7. She said, “Who would have said to Avraham, ó flÖíÖþÐëÔêÐñ·ñÑlÌô−¥ÌôþÓôê †ÒzÔî.ï 3. Avraham rose from the presence of his dead, B¢³Ñô−¤ÑòÐtñ£Ô¼Ñôó flÖíÖþÐëÔê·óÖš¶ÖiÔî.è
that Sarah would nurse children? í¢ÖþÖNó−£ÌòÖëíÖš−'Ìò−Ñí and spoke to the sons of Cheis saying, :þ ÞÒôêÑñ³£Ñì-−ÑòÐa-ñÓêþ'ÑaÔðÐ−Ôî
For I have given birth to a son in his old age.” :î−ÞÖòŠšÐïÌñö£Ñë−ÌzÐð'ÔñÖ−-−ÞÌk 4. “I am a foreigner and a resident among you. ó¢Ó×Ön̼−£Ì×ÒòÞÖêë'ÖLB³Ðî-þÑb.ð
8. The child grew and was weaned. ñ¢ÔôÖbÌiÔîðÓñ£ÓiÔíñ'ÔcÐèÌiÔî.ì Grant me the possession of a grave site with you, ó flÓ×Ön̼·þÓë¶Óš-³ÔfŠìÎê−¥Ìñe¶òÐz
Avraham made a great feast ñB flðÖèí¤ÓzÐLÌô·óÖíÖþÐëÔêNÔ¼¥ÔiÔî so that I may bury my dead from my presence.” :−ÞÖòÖõÐlÌô−£Ì³Ñôí'ÖþÐaКÓêÐî
5. The sons of Cheis replied to Avraham saying to him, :B Þñþ 'ÒôêÑñó£ÖíÖþÐëÔê-³Óê³§Ñì-−ÑòÐëe«òμÞÔiÔî.í

many childless women conceived when she did; ,dÖn̼eðКÐõÌò ³Bþ֚μíÑaÐþÔí Bury your dead in the choicest of our grave sites. E¢Ó³Ñô-³Óêþ£ÒëК eò− flÑþÖëКþ¤ÔìÐëÌôÐa
many sick were healed that day; ,óBiÔëBaeêÐtÔþгÌò ó−ÌñBì íÑaÐþÔí
many prayers were answered with hers; ,dÖn̼eòμÔò ³BlÌõгíÑaÐþÔí No man among us will deny his grave site from you £EÐnÌôí'ÓñÐ×Ì−-ê ÞGB§þÐëÌš-³Óêep flÓnÌôL−¤Ìê
and there was much joy in the world. 352 :óÖñB¼ÖëíÖ−Öí šBìÐNëÔþÐî to bury your dead.” :EÞÓ³Ñôþ'ÒëÐwÌô

An expression of praise and esteem ,³eë−ÌLÎìÔîìÔëÓL öBLÐñ AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA RASHI é"ùøAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

To eulogize Sarah and to weep for her. .äÈúÉkÀáÄìÀåäÈøÈNÀìãÉtÀñÄì

The narrative of Sarah’s death immediately follows íÖþÖN³Ô³−ÌôíÖ×ÐôнÌòÐî
[Here meaning:] “See Who He is, êeí −Ìô ,eêÐþ the Akeidah [binding] of Yitzchok ,šÖìЮÌ−³Ôð−њμÔñ
and to what extent He keeps His promise! !B³ÖìÖ¬ÐëÔíþÑôBL êeí íÖnÔ×Ðî
because as a result of the news of the Akeidah, ,íÖð−њμÖí³ÔþBNÐë−ÑðÐ−ñÔ¼ÓL−ÌõÐñ
God promises and does it!” !íÓLB¼ÐîÔì−̬ÐëÔôí"ÖaÖwÔí
that her son had been prepared for slaughter íÖ¬−ÌìÐLÌñdÖòÐaöÑôÔcÐïÌpÓL
Said. .ìÅlÄî and had almost been slaughtered, ,¬ÔìÐLÌòêHÓL¬Ô¼ÐôÌ×Ðî
Scripture uses an alternate word ëe³ÖkÔííÖpÌL her soul departed from her and she died. 7 :íÖ³Ñôe íÖpÓnÌôdÖ³ÖôÐLÌòíÖìÐþÖt
and does not say þÓaÌð ,þÓaÌc:þÔôÖêêGÐî [4] I am a foreigner and a resident among you. 8 .íÆëÈnÄòéÄëÉðÈàáÈLBúÀåøÅâ [ã]
because its [ñÑlÌô] numerical value is 100 ,’š BlÓLêÖiÌþЬÔô−Ñb
“A stranger from another land ³ÓþÓìÔê±ÓþÓêÑôþÑb
thereby alluding to Avraham’s being 100 years old. 356 :óÖíÖþÐëÔêÐñíÖêÑô ¹B½Ðñ:þÔôBñÐk
and I have settled among you.” .óÓ×Ön̼−ÌzÐëÔMÔ−гÌòÐî

Why is ó−ÌòÖë [children] in the plural form? ?ó−ÌaÔþ öBLÐñó−ÌòÖëeíÔôe “If you will agree 10 then I am a stranger. ,þÑè−Ìò−ÑþÎíe®ÐþÌzóÌê
[Because] on the day of the feast íÓzÐLÌnÔí óB−Ða If not, I will be as a settler ëÖLB³ íÓ−ÐíÓê îêÔñóÌêÐî
the princesses brought their children with them öÓíÖn̼öÓí−Ñ òÐa ³BþÖMÔí eê−ÌëÑí and will rightfully take it. ,ö−ÌcÔíöÌôíÖpÓñÐhÓêÐî
and she [Sarah] nursed them. ,óÖ³Bê íÖš−Ìò−ÑíÐî For God has told me, :í"ÖaÖwÔí−ÌñþÔôÖêÓL
For they were saying that [actually] :³BþÐôBê e−ÖíÓL “To your descendants I will give this land.” 11 :³êÒfÔí±ÓþÖêÖí³ÓêöÑzÓêEμÐþÔïÐñ
Sarah had not given birth ,íÖþÖNíÖðÐñÖ−êG
The possession of a grave. .øÆáÆ÷-úÇfËçÂà

[Meaning:] the possession of land ¼ÔšÐþÔš³ÔfeìÎê
[8] And was weaned. .ìÇîÈâÄiÇå [ç] to serve as a burial place. :³BþÖëÐwÔí³−ÑëÐñ
After he was 24 month old. 358 :LÓðÒì ð"× ¹B½Ðñ

A great feast. 359 .ìBãÈâäÆzÀLÄî [Meaning:] will not withhold ,¼ÔòÐôÌ−êG
