Noach opened the window of the ark í£ÖëÑzÔíöB'lÔì-³ÓêÔìflÒòì¤ÔzÐõÌiÔî one hundred and eighty-two years í¢ÖòÖL³¤ÔêÐôe í£ÖòÖLó−§ÌòÒôÐLe óÌ−«ÔzÐL
which he had made. :íÞÖNÖ¼þ'ÓLÎê and had a son. :öÞÑaðÓñB£iÔî
7. He sent out the raven, ë¢ÑþÒ¼ÞÖí-³Óêì£ÔlÔLÐ−Ôî.ï 29. He named his son Noach, saying, þ¢ÒôêÑñÔì£ÒòB§ôÐL-³Óêê«ÖþКÌiÔî .¬×

The window of the ark. .äÈNÈòøÆLÂàäÈáéÅzÇä ïBlÇçúÆà “He will give us rest from the toil of our hands.” .eò−ÑðÖ− öBëÐv̼³ÓêepÓnÌôìÔòÖ−
[This refers] to the window [i.e., their light source] ,þÔíÒvÔñ Prior to Noach Ô ìÒòêÖëêHÓLðÔ¼
and not the door of the ark íÖë−ÑzÔíìÔ³ÓtíÓïêGÐî they had no agricultural tools ,íÖL−ÑþÎìÔô−ÌñÐkóÓíÖñíÖ−ÖíêG
intended for entry and exit. :íÖê−Ì®−ÌîíÖê−ÌëÐñ −eNÖ¼Óí and he prepared [such tools] for them. .óÓíÖñö−Ì×Ñí êeíÐî
The earth had been producing thorns and thistles ó−ÌþÖcÐþÔðÐîó−Ì®Bš íÖê−Ì®Bô ±ÓþÖêÖííÖ³Ð−ÖíÐî
[7] To and fro. .áBLÈå àBöÈé [æ]
It flew around, circling the ark, ,íÖë−ÑzÔí ³Bë−Ìëн¹−ÌwÔôe CÑñBí when wheat was sown ,ó−ÌhÌìó−̼ÐþBfÓLÐk
and did not go on its errand ,B³eì−ÌñÐLÌaCÔñÖíêGÐî as a result of Adam horishon’s curse ,öBLêÌþÖíóÖðÖêñÓL B³ÖñÐñÌwÌô
and this ceased in the days of Noach. ,íÖìÖòÔìÒò−Ñô−Ìëe
because it suspected him [Noach] concerning its mate, ,Bèeï ³ÔañÔ¼BðÐLBì íÖ−ÖíÓL

137 He waited seven days each time before sending forth the dove. 138 Since there were 60 days between the

appeared? 142 You must discount that the forty days are from when the ark rested for there were only 21 days from

resting of the ark, then the sighting of the peaks and the failure of the dove to return would fall on the same day (v. R. Yudan said: Why is it óÔ¼ÔhíÔô:öÖðe− −ÌaÔþþÔôÖê
12). This is so because Rashi (v. 3) states that the ark rested on 1 Sivan and the mountains appeared 1 Av (Rashi v.
5)—a period of two months. The 40 days plus the 21 days of the dove’s sendoffs are also two months. This would
mean that the dove failed to return merely because the mountain peaks were sighted, which is unlikely. Moreover, 308 Characteristically it should have said “He begot Noach,” the form used in the previous and following verses. (S.C.)
