Health Educators Build Partnership
With Everyday Hero
According to FoodScapes-Hunter Col-
lege-NYC Food Policy Center, “access to
affordable and nutritious food is one of
the cornerstones of good health.” Yet
many individuals and communities are at
higher risk for food insecurity and
chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart
disease, high blood pressure and cancer.
This phenomenon was clearly evident in
certain zip codes during the COVID-19
pandemic.
Neighborhood volunteers like Jean
Odenat, a prospective Lion, recognized
the undersupply of food and formed the
Community Care Food Pantry Inc. in
Brooklyn.
More than 8,400 food kits were distribut-
ed in 7months to diverse communities in
Brooklyn. It is important to note that
more than 30 food pantries and distribu-
tion sites in Brooklyn are now closed,
even though the overwhelming need still
remains.
Brooklyn Health Educators Lions Club is
committed to continue advocacy for the
voiceless.
