By District Governor Keith Murray
Rain has inundated us. Hopefully few of us had any serious damage, but
some neighborhoods were not so lucky. We ended the month with a drop in membership due to the demise of a Club. The Dallas Institute of Funeral Directors was suspended for non-payment of dues. We are no longer in first place in the state. We do have a gain of 67 members for the year and the state is still up 165. We hope that the active members of the Dallas Institute can join other clubs and continue to give service.
I enjoyed a visit to the Irving DFW Indian Lions Club and participated in two Dallas Everest Lions Club events during October. The DELC is a good example of the publicity the a lion’s project can receive. I received notice that the Plano Collin Nepalese Lions Club was approved on October 18th and welcome this new club and their 51 members into the District. They are planning their Charter night for January 19th, so look for more details. Their sponsor is the Dallas Everest Lions Club and the Club President is Lion Prakash Gautam. Guiding Lions are Makar Bajracharya and Michelle Metzger. They are looking for a permanent meeting location and dates.
The Cabinet Meeting on October 20th was hosted by the Kaufman Lions Club who did an excellent job. My thanks to their President Lion Hector Torres and Secretary Lion Larry Eggert for leading that effort. International President’s awards were given to 4 deserving Lions, PDG Kathy Fletcher, Zone Chairs Christy Householter and Esmeralda Rodriguez and Lion Gloria Mathur. We also passed a resolution to forgive the District dues for the first billing cycle after a new club is chartered. This covers the 2 clubs chartered last year and ones chartered this year.
Those assembled at the Cabinet meeting also voted to put a resolution from the Coppell Lions Club on the District Ballot for a Constitutional Change at the District Convention on April 26-27. The change would add a dues increase of up to $2.50 semi annually ($5.00 per year per member) with the funds being transferred to 2-X1 Charities (Continued Page 4)
