Caribbean destinations
fall 60%-70%
ORANJESTAD — Throughout the Caribbean most destina-
tions have seen a 60% - 70% decline in tourist arrivals so
far this year.
Looking at the arrival figures for eight key destinations in
the Caribbean it would appear that almost all countries
have seen their stopover arrivals fall by between 60% -
70% compared with the same months of 2019. The Unit-
ed States Virgin Islands has seen the smallest decline (air
arrivals down by 40.1% for the first nine months of 2020)
while Antigua and Barbuda has seen a 55.4% decline in
stopovers compared with the same ten months of 2019.
Through the first ten months of 2020 Aruba has experi-
enced a 68.1% decline in stopover arrivals compared with
the same ten months of 2019. Most destinations chose to
re-open to international traffic in July 2020. Looking at the
same eight destinations for the period July through Octo-
ber most destinations have seen their volume of stopover
arrivals fall between 20% and 30% of the arrival volumes
for the same months of 2019. Only the USVI has performed
at a higher than average level. Aruba has seen its arrivals
for the four months of July through October total 19.0% of
the total for the same four months of 2019. Source: touris-
