Operational procedures



                6.4.5.1     Search and rescue signals


                If you as a pilot need to direct a ship to a crashed aircraft or other, the procedure

                is as shown below.




                When it is necessary for an aircraft to direct a surface vessel to the location of

                an aircraft or surface vessel in distress, the commander shall ensure that the

                aircraft, by all available means, makes the signals described in ICAO Doc 9731-

                AN/958




                Signaling to ships


                Should  it  become  necessary  to  notify  a  ship  to  proceed  to  assistance,  the

                following maneuvers may be carried out in the order mentioned:




                1. fly at least once around the ship









             2. fly at low altitude ahead of the ship across its course,

                while simultaneously:

                   a. opening and closing the throttle,

                   or

                   b. changing the propeller setting







                3. fly in the direction in which the ship is to be directed.
