Operational procedures
To notify that assistance is no longer required, you shall:
4. fly at low altitude close astern of the ship across its wake, while
simultaneously:
a. the throttle is opened and closed,
or
b. the propeller setting is changed
The ship can respond that the signals have been received by:
- raising the reply pole with vertical red and white stripes all the way up.
- giving a series of “T” signals (─ ) in Morse code with a flashing light.
- making a course change.
The ship can respond that the signals cannot be obeyed by:
- hoisting the international flag signal “N” (square flag divided into blue and
white fields).
- giving a series of “N” signals (─ ●) in morse code with a flashing light.

6.4.6 Restart and emergency landing procedures
It is a good idea to learn by heart the procedures that you may encounter if you
have to restart the aircraft in the air or make an emergency landing.
An Emergency Checklist must be available on the aircraft.
Memorize the procedures and use them if it can have a favorable effect on the
situation.
